A BOUQUET FOR PERCY

Birthday Flowers

With just 1 week to go before the end of the Kelly retrospective there has been no falling off of visitor numbers. The gallery tours on Saturdays have proved very popular and have, I hope, enhanced enjoyment of the exhibition. The last tour is next Saturday 2.00 – 3.00.

It will be really sad to see it all come down. However the generous lenders to the show have now been without their paintings for more than 5 months and will be glad to get them back.

But all is not lost. There is another Kelly treat in store. You will have received an invitation from Theatre by the Lake in Keswick to the opening of the exhibition of Percy Kelly original prints. This has come to you TODAY alongside this one so don't miss it.  It has been sent  via my email to protect your privacy as I never hand on personal data to third parties but if you would like to come, you do need to RSVP Rachel at the theatre as indicated rather than me so she knows how many people to expect.  The date of this exhibition was decided many months ago to coincide with the festival of words and ideas (9th – 18th March) and my talk at Words by the Water (14th March).  Of course at that time we had no idea the retrospective would be extended leaving a rather small gap between the two. However both venues have given me tremendous staff support taking care of the admin, publicity and the physical collecting and hanging of the works which has made it possible.

I have never known a year that has moved so fast but it has been well worth it. The messages, the cards, the flowers and the comments in the visitors’ book have been joyous.  The scope of the Kelly fan club has broadened massively and his profile has increased now that people have seen the full reach of his work.  I have had to do a substantial reprint of the catalogue which has gone all over the world.

Thank you all so much for your support. Hope to see you in March

. I  MAY POP IN ON SUNDAY AS WELL JUST TO TAKE A LAST LOOK - THERE MAY BE TEARS - AND NOT JUST MINE!
